I’m a walking disaster, and he’s not afraid to point it out.

Rue Lennox has a new book coming very soon!! No Perfect Love is releasing on November 14, and I was able to read an early copy.
If you followed me on my previous blog, or if you follow me on Facebook, then you know I am a major fan of Rue Lennox's storytelling. Every single book hits me emotionally, and I fall head over heals for the characters. No Perfect Love, while a re-release that's been reworked, was everything I expected it to be. It's the familiarity of Birch Harbor Maine, and the appearance of other characters I have come to love over the years. I am so happy that Rue is re-releasing her books that were under her former pen name. With the re-release comes a bit of story change, new titles, and of course new covers. I will gladly pick up Rue's books each and every time.
What you'll find in No Perfect Love:
- Opposites Attract
- Small Town
- Police Officer & Teacher
- Suspense
- Bad Girl & Golden Boy
- Sassy Heroine
- Plenty of steamy moments
What you need to know before reading -- CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! Yes that needed to be in all caps, and bolded. There are a few situations in this book that if you're not prepared will be difficult to read. There is a mom who doesn't treat her child the best (read between the lines please), and there is an event at the school (again read between those lines). Then there's also a officer involved situation that doesn't have the best outcome. I'll leave it at that. Those are the major topics you need to be aware of. Have those tissues handy, as if you're like me, you'll need them. Yes, I had read this book under the former title, but damn if those scenes still didn't hit hard.
Avery is our heroine. She's an amazing aunt, has a fantastic bestie, cares deeply about her students, is still healing (mentally) from an accident that had happened, and you really can't help but be drawn to her. Also her brother is the president of the local mc, and happens to be friends with Carter. So I love how that ties in, and of course I'm hoping Rue will write an MC romance series based off the club. ANYWAY... Carter is our hero, and he is spectacular. He's recently returned to Maine, where he joined the force after leaving his professional football career. Seeing him be surrounded by his family is everything. You can just tell how close they are, and how they are constantly in each other's business. Love it. I'll let you in on a little secret, Carter's always had a soft spot for Avery. So reconnecting with her all these years later is going to be good. By the way, these two reconnect at Rett's birthday party (Rett is her nephew). Avery is standing up for herself, and it looks quite the opposite to Carter's eye, so naturally he steps in to investigate. Avery's response had me cackling, “the alcohol made me do it.” If you read the book you'll see her use that defense a couple of times. I know it's not that funny, but in the moment it is. I can't fully explain it, but that response gives a little levity to all that is happening.
I loved this book. When it comes to rating I'm going with 4.5 stars. Why not a solid 5? Well it comes down to the minute details. A lot of which has to do with Avery's prior relationship, and the secrecy surrounding that. It wasn't what I wanted. When the full story came out, it felt a bit weak. I was expecting something much more grand, and heart wrenching. Yes that was enough for me to knock off a half star.
What did I like? The action and suspense were, of course, fantastic. That is something I can count on Rue for. She always delivers. The steam was good, which again is not a surprise if you know Rue's storytelling. I loved the characters (both main and side). I loved the setting. The storyline was emotional, tugged on those heartstrings, and had me falling all over again. Like I said, when discussing those trigger warnings, tissues were definitely needed for this big softie. I also really enjoyed the banter between our couple. Then there's the friendship that Avery has with Chris, and I could not get enough of that. I also liked that Carter realized that in certain moments Avery may lean on Chris a bit more. He acknowledged that, and accepted it. Whatever is best for Avery. Just goes to show what a caring, and compassionate person he is.
If you've read the book, or are going to read the book, then you should know that Carter has brothers. I am hoping that this Birch Harbor: Coming Home series is focusing on them. But I don't know that for certain. This series could be the re-release of Rue's other books, as they fit in with the coming home theme since the male main characters were all former military. Time will tell, but I am crossing my fingers that the brothers get their stories told. Please Rue, don't let me down.
I sincerely hope that you'll read No Perfect Love when it releases on November 14. I have a feeling that you'll fall for Rue's storytelling, as well as her characters, if you do. After all that's what happened to me. So if police romances are your favorite, or you like romantic suspense, or the opposites attract trope, then you need to read No Perfect Love. Trust me, just have those tissues handy for the emotional moments.
